History of the SVAGC

Rooted twenty years ago in an informal gathering of general counsel located on the San Francisco Peninsula, the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel now includes participating chief legal officers from more than 100 leading Bay Area corporations, representing the full spectrum of the high-technology sector.

The SVAGC provides a congenial setting for general counsel to meet professionally and socially, as part of a monthly luncheon program featuring MCLE presentations on topics tailored to the special interests of the members.  The SVAGC also sponsors events tailored to the needs of in-house general and staff counsel at high-technology companies, and projects designed to share their collective expertise.

Organization of the SVAGC

In 2003, the SVAGC was formally organized as a California mutual benefit nonprofit corporation.  "Membership" (the Board of Directors are the only statutory members) involves participation in SVAGC activities, requiring an annual dues payment to cover the costs of the regular monthly meetings.

Ivy Associates provides administrative and MCLE support for SVAGC monthly luncheons.  Ivy Associates also produces the All Hands Meeting, an annual MCLE conference designed for general counsel, staff counsel and paraprofessionals from technology-sector legal departments.
