SVAGC Activities

The Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel provides a congenial setting for general counsel to meet professionally and socially.  Its primary activity is a series of monthly luncheons, each including an informal discussion period and MCLE-accredited presentation on a topic of particular interest to the SVAGC's membership.

The SVAGC also cooperates in special projects, such as a member benchmarking survey and an annual multi-track MCLE conference designed for general counsel, staff counsel and paraprofessionals from legal departments in the technology and life science sectors.

History and Organization of the SVAGC

The SVAGC is rooted in a program that began over 20 years ago, when a handful of Silicon Valley general counsel arranged to lunch together each month to discuss issues of common interest.

Over the years, the group has grown to include over 100 chief legal officers from scores of publicly traded companies and multinational subsidiaries located throughout the Bay Area, spanning the technology and life science sectors: software, electronics, power technology, biotechnology, medical devices, health informatics, materials science, communications and networking infrastructure, e-commerce and Internet services.

In 2003, the SVAGC was formally organized as a California mutual benefit nonprofit corporation;  "membership" (the Board of Directors are the only statutory members) involves participation in SVAGC activities.  The SVAGC is a dues-supported group; its monthly luncheons are not sponsored by invited speakers or other organizations, and only members, speakers and invited guests may attend.
